Why do you believe we all need a bit more Truly in our lives?
When I first met Tara I was excited about the opportunity to be part of a small team involved in a new brand, creating beautiful products. I’ve worked for many retailers, but there was something really refreshing about the Truly values and vision. It’s fantastic to see a brand evolve out of an initial idea, build a great range and see the products come to life.
I love the whole atmosphere here. It’s about as far from corporate as you can get… ever so slightly bonkers and we’re always bouncing different ideas off each other, but we’re all passionate about bringing premium products to life. We’re a close-knit team of inherently different characters, yet all on the same wavelength.
Presuming you are currently in the job of your dreams… What drives you at work?
It’s the journey from initial concept, to seeing that product in the flesh for the first time and thinking ‘we did it!’ Usually, when we first come up with an idea, the first thing that goes through my head is how. How do we achieve the best product we can, without compromising on quality or price, whilst ensuring that it fits the brand? The feeling you get when that final sample arrives on your desk and you know you’ve got it right is the best!
What’s your favourite Truly Product?
It’s really hard to have a favourite, but knitwear has always been my passion. I’m over the moon with the quality and fit that we have achieved on the cashmere and wool cashmere ranges, at the price we are able to offer – and we’ve built up such a great relationship with the suppliers we are working with. Our cashmere is classically beautiful, with a broad appeal, and is something I feel really proud to have been a part of. If I had to choose one product, it would be the Constellation Jumper – such a great statement piece with a hint of novelty but still refined.
If you could take a trip anywhere, where would you go? What kind of trip would it be?
I love my holidays. We usually go to Italy, and one day I’d love to pack up Mr B and go on a romantic all-summer long road trip around Italy in a little Cinquecento. It’s the only place in the world I feel completely relaxed. In truth, my husband and I are real creatures of habit. We have been going to the same hotel in Sorrento for about eighteen years and absolutely adore it. We’ve made so many friends there, it’s like home from home and our one, true, happy place. My favourite restaurant in the world is there… Da Gigino and their seafood linguini are to die for….
Do you have any extra-curricular hobbies/passions? How do you relax?
Having lived and worked in different places around the world including Hong Kong, Germany and San Francisco, I’m happy being close to home these days. I love gardening and grow everything from veggies to cottage garden favourites – with advice from my Mum. I do the planting and the nurturing and leave Mr B to do the weeding and digging. With our two cats tearing around after us.
A far cry from my cottage garden, I love MotoGP…. watching that is, not partaking. My husband and I started going about eight years ago – admittedly I initially only went for the free weekend away in Florence, but I’ve since got sucked in – cheering on Valentino Rossi.
What would your last supper be?
Without a doubt, Linguini Gigino Speciale, which is the most mouth-watering seafood linguini, packed with mussels, prawns, clams – all fresh off the boat. And I always have to end the meal with an Amaretto or two.
Let’s talk constellations. What star sign are you? What typical traits do you have?
I’m a Virgo and I would say I’m pretty typical. On the plus side, I’m loyal, analytical, kind, hard-working and practical… but then there’s also the anxious, over-critical side of me. I’m a perfectionist at heart and all about the fine details – so as much as I am critical, I’m also exceptionally effective and a pain in a supplier’s backside!
